Daniel's story

Daniel Molinari: thirty years in operations. Then a thank-you card.

“I never affected someone's life. Ever.”

That's how Daniel describes his corporate career. Here's what changed it, and why every client conversation now starts with teaching.

How Daniel Molinari became a mortgage loan officer, in four moments

Before

The operator

Daniel owned businesses back when phones were the size of bricks, then built a corporate career that ended as Vice President of Operations, North America. He believed productivity beat politics. One day he learned the company he had built inside a larger organization would never be his to run.

The turn

An accidental lender

A friend pulled him into mortgages. I accidentally stumbled upon this because of a friend. And I'm good at it, because I enjoy helping people.

He has bought, renovated and sold homes himself and coordinated builds with subcontractors. So when he talks about fixer-uppers or construction, he's speaking from his own projects.

The moment

The Starbucks card

Early on, a client mailed him a thank-you card with a Starbucks gift card inside. In thirty years, no vendor had ever sent him a gift without wanting more business. These people were just saying thank you to say thank you, because I helped them.

Today

One photo at every closing

Daniel asks every client for one thing in return: a picture of them signing their last document. He has kept every one. Cornerstone recruited him to open his own branch because of the way he does business, and he's training his son Tristen in the same approach.

Education before transaction

He teaches first. The loan comes later, once you understand your own situation.

“If you educate people, the business will come by itself.”

Straight answers, even when they may cost him

If the honest answer is "don't refinance" or "not yet," that's the answer you get, along with the plan to change it.

“You're going to get the rate you deserve based on your specific information.”

The relationship outlasts the loan

Past clients still call him about their kids' first homes, a buyout, or a contractor question. He picks up.

“I will always be here to help you.”
